RESEARCH:
Photography Curriculum Work Group
January, 2021 – Present
Since the beginning of 2021, I’ve been facilitating monthly focus groups consisting of (11) multi-institutional national and international photography coordinators to discuss where we as educators think the future of photography education will go within the next 10 years. Recent monthly topics have included: retention, recruitment, professional preparation, technology, curriculum development, teaching modalities, and effective course design. During each focus group, I gather each participant’s response to identify common changes happening in the field of photography and record participants’ solutions on how photography curricula can meet those new changes, all of which to best prepare our students for a career in photography in this next decade.

Photography Program Survey
Co-Author with Margaret LeJune, Full Professor at Bradley University and Board Director of The Society For Photographic Education
May, 2022 – Present
The purpose of the survey is to collect data from a wide range of multi-institutional photography educators and administrators to gauge what current photography programs’ biggest strengths and weaknesses are. The participants’ responses will generate multi-institutional trends, commonalities, and differences, ultimately to provide insights on how faculty and administrators can improve one’s photography program for the next decade. This data will also be used to create The Society For Photographic Education’s national standards and guidelines for photography programs.

PROFESSIONAL SERVICE:
College Art Association Professional Practices Committee Member
January, 2022 – December, 2025
The Professional Practices Committee oversees the Standards and Guidelines for all college art programs. The Professional Practices Committee also responds to specific concerns of the membership in relation to areas such as job placement and recruitment, tenure and promotion procedures, scholarly standards and ethics, studio health and safety, and artists’ practices.
